MADRID SUFFER POOR PRE-SEASON RESULTS

La Liga and Champions League champs Real Madrid suffered a bad start to the forthcoming season with poor results in the pre-season games.

The friendly games in the preseason camp in the United States did not go as planned as the team struggled. The champs won just one of four games but the result won’t matter so much until next week when the full blown football seasonresumes. For now it’s a matter of optics as many predict the team might struggle to match last season’s brilliance.

The team was without star forward Cristiano Ronaldo as he was enjoying an extended break following his participation at the FIFA Confederations Cup and the birth of his twins. He was absent as Marcelo scored the deciding penalty kick that ensured Los Blancos defeated MLS All-Star team.

Madrid and the All-Star side played a 1-1 draw so the shootout determined the winner. Continue reading MADRID SUFFER POOR PRE-SEASON RESULTS

Ronaldo struggling with form

Cristiano Ronaldo is finding hard to replicate the sort of form that allowed him to win the Ballon d’Or last season.

The player has been struggling so far with injuries and had yet to find his best form.

Things have been so bad that the player was booed by his own fans against Malaga. Some pundits have argued that the player might be in decline and that there is no way that he could recover his best form. Indeed the player does not possess the same acceleration that he had in the past and has more and more problem in influencing games as he did in the past. More often than not, the player finds himself playing as a striker and cannot impact games as he did in his early career.

It is a bit early to say whether the Portuguese international is past his best as he has struggled with injuries this season. Continue reading Ronaldo struggling with form

REAL MADRID GET SECOND LA LIGA WIN

Real Madrid continued their superb start in the new campaign in the La Liga, defeating Celta Vigo 2-1 despite the absence of key players.

Isco missed the game as he picked up a knock on his ankle. The 24-year old was ruled out of the game, joining a host of other stars on the sidelines for Madrid. Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo remain yet to return to full fitness, even as the Champions League gets set to begin.

“He’s got some discomfort in his ankle. Last week, he took a knock on his ankle and he’s still not recovered. He left the training session and he won’t be with us tomorrow,” coach Zinedine Zidane said.

There are speculations that James Rodriguez and Raphael Varane could be on their way out of Madrid, and Zidane dropped a hint when he said: “Anything can happen until the 31st. Nobody is coming in, that’s certain, but it’s possible some may leave.”

Gareth Bales was on target as he returned to goal scoring during the La Liga opener last week. Real Madrid won Real Sociedad 3-0, with Bale grabbing a brace. Celta Vigo lost their opener to entrants Leganes, so they gave Real a tough fight before succumbing to another loss at the Bernabeu. Continue reading REAL MADRID GET SECOND LA LIGA WIN

Cristiano Ronaldo inspires his team to beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp

Cristiano Ronaldo has inspired his team Real Madrid to an important win in the Classico to keep their hopes of the title alive. The Portuguese forward scored the winning goal with five minutes only to play to help Real Madrid clinch a decisive win in the title race.

Barcelona, who had a ten point lead at the top of the table before the match, found their lead cut off to only 7 points. Athletico Madrid is now second 6 points behind the leaders.

The game started well for Barcelona with their possession football. Madrid was keen to let them have control of the ball and play in front of the defense and then hit them on the counter-attack. Messi and Suarez were guilty of missing some chances during the first hour of the game. It was evident that the front players for Barcelona were tired following the international break compared to Benzema who was not involved with France.

It is, however, Barcelona who opened the scoring by Gerard Pique after a corner. His powerful header did not give Real Madrid’s keeper any chance. It was a deserved lead for Barcelona who has been controlling the game from the start.

However, Madrid regrouped after conceding and gradually became more dangerous. Benzema scored acrobatically on a great ball from Toni Kroos just 6 minutes after conceding.

Bale even scored a goal after a Ronaldo service, but it was disallowed because of a foul on Jordi Alba. Continue reading Cristiano Ronaldo inspires his team to beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp
