REDKNAPP BACKS KANE FOR GOLDEN BOOT
Former Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp hasbacked England skipper Harry Kane to edge past Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the Golden Boot at the ongoing Euro 2020 tournament. Redknapp praised Spurs striker Kane in a chat with Sky Sports News as he was impressed with how the Manchester City target has recovered from a bad start to lead his country into the semi-finals at the tournament.
Only Czech Republic striker Patrick Schick can match the five goals scored by Ronaldo at Euro 2020. The Czechs are also out of the tournament after they were beaten by Denmark in the quarterfinals at the weekend. Bayer Leverkusen star Schick scored his fifth goal of the tournament in the second half of the game against the Danes but his goal was not enough as Czech Republic succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Denmark.
Spurs star Kane didn’t score in any of the group games but England still qualifiedas group winners. England topped Group D ahead of Croatia, Czech Republic and Scotland. Kane scored his first goal of the tournament against Germany in the round of 16. He scored the second goal as England beat Germany 2-0 to advance into the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinal between England and Ukraine, Kane scored twice to lead his team to the last four of the tournament. He found the back of the net twice either side of the half as England beat Ukraine 4-0 to advance into the semis. The two goals took his tally to three and he will need three more goals to surpass Ronaldo and Schick in the race to win the topscorer award.
